Lithium battery is the preferred source of energy for many electrical appliances. These appliances include mobile phones, children's toys and electric bicycles. These batteries are widely used by human beings. Almost all daily necessities need lithium batteries. The anode of lithium battery is made of lithium metal. These batteries have high charge density. Lithium is used in batteries because it provides a higher voltage than any other metal such as zinc or carbon. The generated voltage ranges from 1.5 V to 3.7 V. The cathode consists of manganese dioxide. The electrolyte is lithium metal salt.
Transportation mode of lithium battery
People are not very clear about the danger of its transportation. As lithium ions move from anode to cathode, many preventive measures need to be taken in the process of transportation. Many countries are making lithium batteries and exporting them to other countries to earn income. Lithium batteries can be transported internationally only if there is a battery in the equipment. They cannot be shipped without equipment. Please make sure that the equipment is properly buffered during transportation. It should not be opened accidentally. There are many ways to transport lithium batteries from the place of production.
About 18 billion lithium batteries are shipped every year. Some airlines believe that the lithium battery fire cannot be put out. A new rule adopted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is that passenger airlines are not allowed to transport independent lithium batteries. But you can still transport devices that need battery power. Only batteries packaged with the equipment can be transported. Can lithium batteries be transported by cargo planes?
Lithium battery airlift rules
Lithium battery n is shipped at a 30% charging state. The battery cannot be fully charged because the ion movement in the electrolyte increases when it is fully charged, which can be dangerous.
30% of the charge represents 3.0 V. The fully charged lithium battery provides 4.2 V. Therefore, 30% represents 30% of 4.2 V. Keep in mind that there is no shipper to 30%. It is usually shipped at 70% of the charge.
Lithium batteries must be packed separately. They should be isolated from all other objects.
Lithium batteries contained in the equipment must be properly buffered to avoid accidental start-up of the equipment.
Shippers are not allowed to send more than one pack of independent lithium batteries. Packing must be carried out in accordance with the instructions provided by ICAO. For packaging instructions, he must follow the instructions in section II 965 or 968.
You should know that it is not lithium or oxygen that is burning. When the battery is extra charged or discharged, the oxygen in the matrix will try to convert into oxygen. When the heat increases, the gas burns. There must be oxygen inhibitor fire extinguishers in the storage area.
Label the goods
Shipments containing lithium-ion batteries must contain labels provided by ICAO. It is easy for workers to understand that they must carry it correctly. They will know that they have to separate the bag from all other items. The label on the package is very important.
The transportation of lithium batteries needs to be very careful. No matter which mode of transport is used, it should be handled properly. If you want to ship lithium-ion batteries or electronic devices, you should be aware of some requirements. Try to package the battery correctly. You must know when your goods need to be shipped. The goods must be packed correctly according to their destination. You can mail lithium batteries if you meet the following requirements:
Store the battery in the sealed package of the original manufacturer. There is no need to replace the packing. This will prevent the battery from shorting. The packing must be perfect to avoid movement inside the outer package. This will also keep the device away from accidental opening.
If the entire battery is not sealed, cover the terminal of the battery. You can do this using any type of magnetic tape. You can put the battery in a separate bag instead of sealing it on it.
Try not to use metal objects to pack the battery. The friction of the metal on the battery terminal will cause it to produce static electricity. In this way, the battery will heat up and may be damaged. Therefore, please keep the battery away from metal tools.
The packaging for batteries must be strong and sturdy. Choose an inert material to package the battery. If used in any metal container, the lithium-ion battery will be charged.
Please make sure that you have completed the complete paperwork before booking the shipment. Paperwork is very valuable. You should mention the number of batteries in the package. The shipper should know that the consignment contains lithium-ion batteries.
You cannot transport any items with lithium batteries. ICAO has drawn up a list of rules that shippers must abide by when transporting lithium-ion batteries. Lithium batteries need a cool, dry place. The battery must be protected from heat. If the battery will be transported to other items, then there are plenty of opportunities to heat the battery. The heat will cause the battery to burn. The burning of the battery can also damage other objects. The heat will convert oxygen into oxygen, and the oxygen will begin to burn.
